Dr Dilip Chand Raja S

Director of Orthopaedics

The division of Orthopaedics is headed by Dr Dilip Chand Raja, best Orthopaedic Surgeon in chennai who had a meritorious academic career. After securing the state second score in medical entrance examination he underwent basic medical training from Tamil Nādu’s most prestigious Madras Medical College. He stood first in the All-India Fellowship Entrance Examination for orthopaedics conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) country in the year 2016 after his 4-year training in the busy orthopaedic unit of Calicut medical college. He went on to pursue his dream of training in spine surgery in the largest spine care unit of India under the living legend of Orthopaedics Prof Dr. S. Shanmuganathan Rajasekaran in Ganga Hospitals, Coimbatore. After completing his Fellowship in National Board (Spine surgery), the only nationally accredited spine training program, he continued to work as senior registrar in the department of spine surgery till 2021. He underwent further training under Prof. Ulrich Noeth and Dr. Miguel Alquiza in Evangelisches Waldkrankenhaus Spandau, Berlin, Germany. He is currently a full-time consultant of orthopaedics and spine surgery in Fortis Hospital, Vadapalani, Chennai   He has over 35 peer-reviewed publications, 77 national and international presentations and more than 50 abstracts published to his credit. He is the proud recipient of 26 national and international awards, fellowships and grants in spine surgery including the prestigious North American Spine Society – The Spine Journal Outstanding Basic Science Award for three consecutive years (2019,2020 and 2021). He has also received the Asian Pacific Spine Society- Asian Spine Journal Best Basic science paper award (2019,2021) and Best Clinical Research award (2019). The Association of Spine Surgeons of India have bestowed on him Clinical Research Award (2018), travelling fellowship (2019) and VT Ingahalikar Gold Medal Award (2021). He has been crowned with the young researcher award by the Indo-Korean Orthopaedic foundation (2016), Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI) (2021) and the International Society for the Study of lumbar Spine (ISSLS) headquartered in Canada for the year 2022. He has also been the co-author of both the best basic and clinical science papers presented in ISSLS for 2021, and best basic science paper awarded by ASSI for 2019,2020,2021 and 2022. He is currently serving as the section editor for spine in the Indian journal of orthopaedics and is also a reviewer of leading orthopaedics and spine journals such as The Spine Journal, European Spine Journal, Asian Spine Journal, Hindawi, Journal of Musculoskeletal diseases and Indian Spine Journal.
